Introduction
I’ve decided to start this blog hopefully as a means of help to people who are in a similar situation to the one I’ve been in, and I’m still currently experiencing. My situation as you’ve probably gathered is living with “Aspergers Syndrome.” At times it can be a bit of a struggle, but on the other hand it has helped me in aspects of my life that perhaps others may not appreciate.
I guess before I go running off with a more in-depth description of what I plan on including within the blog a bit of information about myself would be…well, polite. My name is Matt and I’m now at a ripe age of 29 :-) I was diagnosed with Aspergers around the age of 14, if memory serves me right, after seeing numerous specialists with differing opinions. While respecting what these individuals were saying, none of the suggestions on my situation seemed accurate as to what I was experiencing. Due to this, when I was diagnosed with AS it was almost a relief to have a label which would allow me to research and possibly understand myself and my odd actions more.
After reading materials from different sources I found that most of what I was reading was about the behaviour that is usually exhibited. I couldn’t find anything in the way of coping strategies and for a teenage kid who was insecure enough about pretty much everything, this wasn’t something I was keen to add to my list lol. As it turned out I’d formed quite a solid base of knowledge for coping academically and as I’ve aged, my ways of coping with social situations have improved too. Knowing how trying things can get, I’m going share some of the coping methods for different situations I’ve picked up. Hopefully somewhere throughout what I put on here there will be something to help make things a little easier for yourself or someone you care about.
Things that I include on here for coping will cover the span of my life, or at least for the years I can remember :-) Because of this, some of the things I include may seem glaringly obvious to do for some, but I’m working under the assumption that if I include it then it may be of help to someone. As there’s such a huge scope of situations to cover, if I do miss anything you may want assistance/advice on feel free to leave me a message and I shall do my best to help. Any changes that I make, whether additions or amendments I'll add in the updates section.
